“Direct Animal Care ” volunteer Positions -  Please think seriously about this position! You must be able to work outdoors, dont mind getting wet, cold, hot and dirty, and you understand you run the risk of being bit, scratched or kicked while trying to help our wonderful creatures, then please keep reading…
The Sanctuary animals need care 365 days a year – even during  our very cold wet winters, & hot miserable days.   This 6-week training program with a volunteer mentor is needed to teach new volunteers about the important safeguards and the special needs of these wonderful animals. Animal care really is all about cleaning and providing food and fresh water. This is not  a glamerous job! Volunteers are needed to care for goats, sheep, llamas, alpacas, pigs, emus, chinchillas, rabbits and wallabies.  Waterfowl, pheasants, doves, chickens, pigeons and Exotic birds.  This is not a once a month volunteer position. If you want to work with the animals, please know this is a very comitted position.   This is  Minimum of  (four) times a month/for 6 months. If  you cannot comit to these hours, there are other areas you can volunteer, and we  would still love your help.   You can always work on  projects  – there are tons of them.  Any volounteer position here allows you to see and be part of the animals daily life.
Next step to the Direct Animal Care”Position – there is a  $50.00 (refundable)  training deposit. Training to care for the animals, takes a huge commitment. This deposit helps to insure that the time and energy needed to train and supervise incoming volunteers for this position will be respected. Our established volunteers do the training and we value them very highly.  We want to insure that their time is not wasted by those who are not willing to give the animals this comitment. This is only (6 days) - six consecutive weeks of training. The animals need to get to know and trust you. After ten years of  experience with no shows and cancellations… we  guarantee and know, this  job, cannot be done if the weekly time is broken up. They will forget you, and you will forget their care. The direct animal care position is considered to be a priveldge that is earned at Sara’s Sanctuary.   Many of the animals residing at Sara’s Sanctuary have endured either neglect or injury during their lifetime, and trust is a big issue for them. We, therefore ask, all animal care volunteers to make a  6-month commitment to volunteering. When you complete the 6-week consecutive week training period, you will be given 100% of your deposit back. If you decide  at that time, that you don’t wish to continue volunteering here at the Sanctuary, we will understand, and we will still refund 100% of your deposit back to you.  If you do not complete the 6 weeks consecutively, your deposit will not be returned and will be considered a donation for getting to have private, personal time with the animals.

Volunteers shifts now available – Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Time:  10:00 am to 1:00 pm.     (min. 18 years of age)
